Mp3eme VOX: What's in a name, Robyn?
POST A TRACK FROM YOUR LIBRARY THAT REFERENCES A PERSON BY NAME... in the title or as the subject of the song....
Of course, I had to go make this a "project."
We'll kick this off with the highest number of proper names per square inch in a Robyn Hitchcock song. EVAR:
Give Me A Spanner, Ralph.
And we're off!
Elizabeth Jade
I Saw Nick Drake
and
Jewels for Sophia
Sally Was a Legend
and
(A Man's Gotta Know His Limitations) Briggs
Clean Steve
and
Gene Hackman
Cynthia Mask
and
Queen Elvis
Maria Lyn
Brenda's Iron Sledge
and
Penelope's Angles
Linden Arden Stole the Highlights
Listening to the Higsons

Is Leppo a name? Jooves?
Here are two five where you have to listen to the words to locate the proper names:
New York Doll
and
1974
Grooving On An Inner Plane
Uncorrected Personality Traits
and English Girl
Some Soft Boy goodness:
Mr. Kennedy
Have a Heart Betty (I'm Not Fireproof)
Muriel's Hoof/Rout of the Clones
It has been pointed out to me that Jesus is an actual name, and I guess that is correct. So here are Jesus & Me and Ye Sleeping Knight Of Jesus.
A couple of Dylan covers:
VIsions of Johanna
and
Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues
Some Pink Floyd covers from the Piper at the Gates of Dawn Show (December 2006):
See Emily Play

and
Arnold Layne
Jimi Hendrix cover:
The Wind Cries Mary
and
a Young Fresh Fellows cover:
Mamie Dunn, Employee of the Month
Still at large: Melting Arthur and Dear Prudence.
Let me know if I missed any more!
AND by popular (sort of) request the story of Wendy and the Can Opener!
Stand back, Dennis! I've found a couple more. Here are two Veras, a Maureen, and a Paula Lorraine.
The Bones in the Ground and The Yip Song.

P.S. I've had Vox refuse to save some of my huge music posts as well.
If you listen to the banter at the end of the live Give Me A Spanner you will hear his intro to TW&J.
I still don't understand why some of my images wouldn't load while others from the same bunch did. The angels mar the elegance of my work. =[
I'm a casual Robyn Hitchcock fan and I've been frustrated that so much of his discography is out-of-print. I never have been able to track down an official copy of my favorite, I Often Dream of Trains. Your post inspired me to run an Amazon search. I was happy and excited to find out that I Often Dream of Trains is scheduled for reissue on 10/16. There's also a 5 disc box set scheduled for release on the same day.
I've already ordered and I caved in and got both the cd and the vinyl boxes. I'm a little ashamed of myself, but also inordinately proud. =D
OR
If you don't want to get mixed up with our motley meme crew, I'd totally understand.
(Oh, yeah. I am ass-deep in cds, working on my compilation, so monkeys are still awaiting post. When I'm done I'm gonna love this cd so much that I may have to divorce my husband and marry it!)
