In re: Vu's Star Trek post at WHM let me add that Nichelle Nichols is totally bad-ass! 

• She sang with Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton before she ever hailed a frequency for Captain Kirk. 
• She is the godmother of interracial kissing on television.
• She played Dorinda, the madaam, in the blaxploitation classic Truck Turner (with Isaac Hayes).
• She was in The Roar of the Greasepaint-- The Smell of the Crowd with Anthony Newly.
• She has recruited women and minority employees for NASA.
• She was at the christening of the first Space Shuttle (the Enterprise, heh).
• Her brother died in the Heaven's Gate mass suicide in 1997.
• And she can sing rings around Shattner and Nimoy... not that that's very hard.
